Chima and Lydia campaign for safety; Six houseguests compete in a messy, pimple-popping power of veto challenge; Russell and Jessie turn their attention to Ronnie

On the July 14, 2009 episode of Big Brother, Season 11, Episode 3, the houseguests competed in their first power of veto competition.

Nomination Aftermath

Chima expected to be up for nomination, but Lydia never saw it coming. After the announcement she broke down in tears in her room. She felt her appearance (the tattoos) made her a target, and she really felt like she was back in high school. Jeff and Jordan kept telling Lydia she wasn’t going anywhere, and she seemed to have a good following.

Chima overheard Lydia’s buddies assuring her she was safe. The conversation made her feel uneasy about her own safety, even though she was supposed to be just a pawn. Russell told Jessie about the conversation Chima overheard, and Jessie tried to make Russell see that if they don’t get the vote Chima will go home.

Lydia wasn’t the only one who felt targeted for her appearance. Laura felt everyone was against her because of her breasts. Russell and Casey humored her about her worries, but Casey thought she was being ridiculous since she had a key. Laura decided to join Jessie’s clique, and Jessie was completely open to it.

Russell Wins POV

Chima, Natalie, Russell, Lydia, Jeff and Jessie competed in the power of veto competition. Casey was chosen as the host. In the backyard there was a huge face with big pimples on the ground. The competitors had to pomp the pimples, find the letters inside and form a word with what they found. The person with the longest word wins the POV.

Watching the competitors pick through the pimples was disgusting. Lydia was all over the pimples, searching for the letters to spell “civilization.” Chima was looking for tiles to spell “superficiality.” Jessie was the first competitor finished, but he did not have the longest word. Russell won the competition with the seven-lettered word “shotgun.”

Russell’s First Rampage

Russell and Jeff are not getting along. Russell thought Jeff threw the POV competition, and his plan was to use Jeff’s word, “technotronics” (whatever that is), to embarrass him. He began shouting throughout the house how bad of a physical and mental competitor Jeff is. He basically called him an idiot. The rest of the houseguests watched, confused and unsure of what they had seen.

Jeff began to go off on Natalie, and Natalie told Jeff he isolates him from the team. Natalie said Jeff tries to slide his way through the competition by walking away from the decisions. She also told him he would’ve been up for nomination if he wasn’t on their team.

Lydia Saves Herself

Lydia was doing everything she could to make Russell want to use the POV on her. She told him she really liked him, and Russell told her Natalie was the one who wanted her up for nomination. Lydia saw this as the men wanting a strong female around so her plan was to show the men she could be that strong female.

Lydia confronted Natalie, who defended herself by saying she felt disrespected by Lydia. Jessie said sometimes Lydia comes off insincere. She apologized to the pair and said she believed Braden is the real fake. Later, Jessie and Natalie convinced Russell to take Lydia off and put Braden up.

Russell told Ronnie, who told Jeff and Jordan, who told Braden. Russell felt Braden knew and confronted Ronnie. Ronnie said he did not tell Braden, which is sort of true. Russell then told Jessie about Ronnie.

At the POV ceremony Russell chose to use the POV on Lydia, and Jessie replaced Lydia with Braden.
